Why send sunscreen to BCT?

During Basic Training, Soldiers spend long hours outside in the sun through PT, formation, field training, obstacle courses, marching, and ruck marches. Sun exposure can quickly become uncomfortable, especially during the first weeks of training when trainees are constantly outdoors with limited downtime.

This SPF 50 sunscreen stick is compact, easy to carry, and quick to apply during busy training days without messy hands or liquid spills.
  • SPF 50 protection: Helps protect skin during long outdoor training days.
  • Hands-free stick design: Quick and easy to apply during training.
  • Fragrance free: Simple and practical for the BCT environment.
  • Reef safe: Made without oxybenzone or octinoxate.

Rules can vary by base, battalion, company, battery, troop, and Drill Sergeant. Personal care items allowed during training may differ by unit, so your SIT should always follow their Drill Sergeant’s instructions.

FAQs

  • Why send a care package if SITs already have access to the PX?

Many Soldiers in Training (SITs) do have access to the PX (Post Exchange) eventually, but usually only every couple of weeks and often for a very limited amount of time. Even when they do get the chance to shop, they may not have enough time to look around or find exactly what they need.

The bigger issue is that many SITs do not realize what they need until training starts taking a toll on them. Blisters from new boots, dry or sore throats from constant outdoor training and cadence calls, and general physical exhaustion can hit fast during those first weeks of Basic Training.

That is why items like moleskin and cough drops become so valuable. By the time they realize they need them, they often wish they already had them waiting in their locker.

We strongly recommend sending a basic must have care package as soon as you receive their mailing address, even if you do not yet know their platoon information. You can always send additional personal items later, but having these essentials early can make a real difference during those difficult first weeks of training.

That is exactly why we created the care packages at Ruck Circle to help families quickly send the essentials their SIT may not realize they need yet.

  • Can I send flavored cough drops to my SIT?
It depends on the training unit and the Drill Sergeants. Some companies, batteries, or troops may allow flavored cough drops, while others may confiscate or throw them away. For that reason, our standard package includes menthol cough drops because they are usually the safest choice for Basic Training. If you would like Honey Lemon or Blackberry instead, we can switch them for you upon request. However, by choosing flavored cough drops, you understand and accept the risk that they may not be allowed by the training staff. If flavored cough drops are rejected, confiscated, or discarded during training, Ruck Circle cannot issue refunds for those items.
  • Which shipping carriers does Ruck Circle use?

Ruck Circle offers two shipping options: USPS Priority Mail Cubic and UPS. You can choose your preferred shipping carrier during checkout.

  • How long does it take for my SIT to receive the package?
Ruck Circle ships packages daily from Monday through Saturday. Most packages arrive at the military base within 2 to 3 business days after shipment. However, arrival at the base does not always mean your SIT will receive the package immediately. Package distribution depends on the Drill Sergeants and the training unit. Some companies distribute mail once a week, while others may distribute it more frequently. Because each company, battery, or troop handles mail differently, we cannot guarantee exactly when your SIT will receive their package after it arrives on base.
  • My SIT already packed cough drops and moleskin before shipping out. Should I still send more?

Yes, we still recommend sending them early. During Reception and the first days of training, SITs often have very little time to unpack their personal backpacks. In many cases, they only have time to pull out the most essential items before their bags are locked away for the rest of training.

That means even if your SIT packed cough drops or moleskin before shipping out, they may not actually have access to them during Basic Training.

You can wait for the next phone call before sending other items they may request later, such as extra razors, boots, or personal supplies. But once you have their mailing address, our advice is to send cough drops and moleskin as early as possible so they already have them when training starts getting tough.
